To make room for the new signings, General Manager Ryan Poles waived six players who were under contract, including linebacker Ledarius Mack and running back Master Teague.
Teague is a surprising cut. He was one of the bigger names signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent and was expected to compete for the No. 3 running back job in training camp. Instead, Ohio University’s De’Montre Tuggle will be that guy.
Tuggle carried the ball 138 times for 804 yards and seven touchdowns in 2021. He measured 5-foot-8 and 206 pounds at his pro day and ran a 4.59 40-yard dash. He has more lateral agility than Teague, who’s generally regarded as a straight-line athlete with high-end speed.
Really impressed with the vision and lateral cuts #Ohio RB De’Montre Tuggle makes pressing the line of scrimmage. Runs with low center of gravity, a one cut runner who gets downhill quickly.
Shows upside as a receiver as well. Averaged 7.6 YPC last season. #BlueChipSummer pic.twitter.com/erlSVzC1Px

The Bears are expected to continue tweaking the roster over the coming weeks. They will hold nine OTA practices on May 16, 17, 19, 23, 24, 26 and June 6, 7 and 9, and with several quality veterans remaining unsigned in free agency, Poles is likely to add another player or two before the next full-team minicamp on June 14-16.
