Bears claim former Giants TE Rysen John, waive Jesper Horsted (Free Agency)

The Jesper Horsted era is over in Chicago. The Bears waived Horsted to make room for former New York Giants tight end Rysen John.

The Giants signed John in 2020 as an undrafted free agent. He played his college football at Simon Fraiser University in Canada, he was a third-round pick in the CFL draft that year.

Horsted was let go because of a failed physical. It’s unclear what led to his poor medical, but it’s a frustrating end to his Bears tenure that never had a chance to get going under former coach Matt Nagy.

Horsted was the darling of the 2021 preseason and sealed his roster spot with an incredible three-touchdown performance against the Tennessee Titans that summer.

It’s unclear whether Horsted will have a chance to rejoin the Bears later this summer, but we’ll always have that Titans game.

John, meanwhile, has battled injuries of his own throughout his career. He’s bounced back and forth between the Giants practice squad and injured reserve during the last two seasons and has yet to log a rep in the regular season.
