Disrespect for Chicago Bears offense reaches new low in this triplets ranking

The Chicago Bears don’t have an elite offense. It doesn’t take a grizzled veteran of the game to know a wide receiver group as unproven as the Bears’, combined with an offensive line with big questions at right guard and offensive tackle, doesn’t deserve much preseason respect. But that doesn’t mean everything about Chicago’s offense is terrible.
Quarterback Justin Fields, running back David Montgomery, and wide receiver Darnell Mooney constitute an impressive triplet of young skill players. They won’t be able to win games on their own, of course, but there’s no denying Fields’ upside as one of the game’s top young playmaking quarterbacks. Montgomery runs with a rare “want to,” and Mooney’s slippery smooth route-running has his arrow pointing up.
That’s why CBS Sports’ recent ranking of the NFL’s offensive triplets is so bizarre. They have this Bears trio checking in as one of the worst groups in the league at No. 30 overall.
“The Bears checked in dead last in our offensive infrastructure rankings, so it makes sense that they’d fall near the bottom of this list as well,” CBS Sports Jared Dubin wrote. “Fields is wildly talented, so he has the chance to make this ranking look silly. However, he’s likely not going to be put in position to succeed, due to the lack of overall talent around him. Montgomery showed he can handle a three-down workload last year and Mooney developed chemistry with Fields, but this group does not have enough help from the rest of the unit to inspire much confidence.”
Bears’ trio of Fields, Montgomery, and Mooney is better than advertised

Look, I get it. You don’t have to have confidence in the Chicago Bears’ offense until they prove something on the field. But what makes this ranking insulting is that the Houston Texans’ trio of quarterback Davis Mills, running back Marlon Mack, and wide receiver Brandin Cooks is rated higher. I get the Cooks part, he’s one of the NFL’s most underrated wideouts. But Davis over Fields? Mack over Montgomery? Embarrassing.
The Bears are ranked behind the New York Giants, too, who boast Daniel Jones (QB), Saquan Barkley (RB), and Kenny Golladay (WR) as their triplets. Jones stinks, Barkley is teetering on being a bust, and Golladay is one of the NFL’s most overrated wide receivers.
Even the New York Jets are rated higher than the Bears! And their triplets include two rookies who haven’t played a snap of NFL Football (Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson). Truly remarkable.
The offseason of disrespect for the Bears has been harsh. Really harsh. But this ranking is the clear winner for the most unreasonable take on Chicago’s offense so far.
