The days before the Chicago Bears kick off their 2022 training camp are dwindling. But it’s still an excruciating wait to get back to football. And the best way to pass this time is by checking out the 2023 NFL Draft landscape and the mock drafts that come along with it.
The Bears are back in the first round of the 2023 draft, which makes mock drafts more fun to read. Chicago is also a popular choice to be one of the worst teams in the NFL in 2022, which means their first-rounder will be a premier pick. But who will that pick be?
According to Pro Football Network, the most common choice among thousands of mock drafts conducted with their mock draft machine is USC wide receiver Jordan Addison.
“It appears as if the Chicago Bears fans are torn on two receivers: Jordan Addison and Quentin Johnston.,” PFN’s Cam Mellor wrote. “When deciphering who to pick here, we slid with Addison as he’s being drafted with an average draft position of 11.5.
‘Addison, the reigning Biletnikoff Award winner, has transferred to USC after hauling in passes at Pittsburgh during Kenny Pickett’s historic 2021 season. He’ll again have an NFL-caliber quarterback throwing his way with the Trojans and has the chance to explode even further onto the scene in Lincoln Riley’s offense.”
Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles will have plenty of wide receiver options in the 2023 NFL draft.Bears have plenty of wide receiver options in 2023 NFL draft
The exciting takeaway from PFN’s mock draft results is that the Chicago Bears have a wide range of outcomes in these early mocks. Only 10.5% of Bears mock drafts have Addison as the pick. It’s a percentage that ranks 19th out of 32 teams. The Jacksonville Jaguars, for example, are connected to Ohio State wide receiver Jaxson Smith-Njigba in nearly 26% of PFN’s mock drafts.
While there may not be a consensus for who the Bears will target in the 2023 NFL Draft, it certainly seems like there isn’t much debate about which position general manager Ryan Poles should prioritize. Almost every mock draft in football media has the Bears coming away with either Addison, Smith-Njigba, Johnston, or LSU’s Kayshon Boutte.
