Bears fans won’t like this stat entering Week 3

Cover your eyes, Chicago Bears fans. You’re not going to like this little nugget shared by CBS Sports on Twitter Thursday morning.

In a tweet listing the NFL’s reception leaders through two games, the Bears — as a team — check-in behind four players and are tied with five others.

We may want to call this stat misleading because of the weather conditions in Week 1 and an incredibly conservative game plan in Week 2, but the facts are the facts. The Bears’ passing game has quickly become an easy target for outlets like CBS, whether the fans like it or not.

Chicago’s top wide receiver, Darnell Mooney, only has two catches (for four yards) through the first two games. Tight end Cole Kmet, who was supposed to break out in 2022, has zero catches. Byron Pringle? Just one.

Running back David Montgomery leads the Bears with five catches. Equanimeous St. Brown has three.

It’s embarrassing, but it’s not going to stay this way the whole year. The Bears have a get-right game coming in Week 3 against the Houston Texans. The stage has been set for quarterback Justin Fields to have a breakout performance against a team that will present opportunities for Chicago’s offense to make plays.

Until then, tweets like CBS’ will be hard to stomach.
