Cody Whitehair scores Bears’ highest PFF grade on offense in Week 3

The Chicago Bears offense was a mixed bag of good and bad in Week 3’s win over the Houston Texans. The running game was fantastic. The passing game was horrendous. But one player on offense stood out from the rest on Pro Football Focus’ grading scale: left guard Cody Whitehair.

Whitehair scored the highest grade of any Bears player on offense with an 85.3. His 82.8 run-blocking grade fueled his high marks.

One of the main beneficiaries of Whitehair’s run blocking was Khalil Herbert, who finished Sunday with 20 carries for 157 yards and two touchdowns. His 79.4 grade trailed only Whitehair among the Bears’ primary offensive players.

Teven Jenkins, who totaled only 22 snaps, was next with a 76.9, followed by rookie left tackle Braxton Jones, who scored a 70.3.

On the other side of the spectrum was quarterback Justin Fields, whose abysmal performance led to one of the team’s lowest grades on offense: 56.3.

Fields wasn’t the worst, though. That distinction belongs to Lucas Patrick, who scored a 41.5 over 41 snaps.

As for Fields, he now has a season grade of 43.0, which is unsustainably bad. At this rate, Fields is headed toward being the lowest-graded starting quarterback in the NFL. It’s the kind of analytic that will give talking heads more ammunition if bad weeks continue to pile up.
