The Chicago Bears have a new alpha wide receiver on their roster. GM Ryan Poles traded the Bears’ 2023 second-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for the dynamic pass-catcher Chase Claypool. Chicago still has a second-rounder in 2023 after they traded Roquan Smith to the Baltimore Ravens Monday.
Claypool, 24, measured in at 6’4, 238 pounds and ran an electric 4.42 40-yard dash at the 2020 NFL combine. He was selected in the second round by the Pittsburgh Steelers that year.
He’s lived up to that dynamic athletic profile over his first three seasons in the league despite playing in an offense that struggles to push the ball downfield. He won’t have that problem any longer now that he’s catching passes from QB Justin Fields.
