Justin Fields apologized to Bears teammates after Week 11 loss to Falcons
Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields apologized to his teammates after coming up short against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 11 …
The last five weeks of the 2022 NFL season have made one thing incredibly clear: Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields is one of the most incredible on-field talents in the league.
We’re also learning that he’s a rare breed off the field.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Fields attempted to apologize to his Bears teammates after Chicago came up short, 27-24, against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 11.
Little nugget I picked up: Bears QB Justin Fields apologized to his teammates after Chicago’s loss to the Falcons in the locker room postgame. Told them the defense gave the offense a chance, and the offense didn’t get it done. Went a long way with guys, after he’d played hurt.
Breer said Bears defenders stopped Fields short of taking the blame for the loss.
My understanding is Fields’ defensive teammates stopped him as he was finishing the apology, told him they had his back. Really cool moment for everyone there, and a nice sign of where Matt Eberflus has taken the culture in Chicago.
Fields injured his left shoulder in the final series against the Falcons. An official diagnosis has not been shared by the Bears yet, but speculation is that it was a dislocation that will require at least some time to heal. The fact he stood in front of his teammates in obvious pain and took the blame for the loss is a stark contrast to what’s happening with the New York Jets, where their 2021 first-round quarterback, Zach Wilson, refused to accept responsibility for his team’s struggles against the New England Patriots.
We’ll know more about Justin Fields’ recovery time on Wednesday when the Bears are expected to share more information about his shoulder injury and how it will impact the rest of his season.
Justin Fields is currently fifth in the NFL in rushing with 834 yards and seven touchdowns. He’s completing nearly 60% of his passes for 1,642 yards with 13 TDs and eight interceptions.
