2023 NFL Draft: ESPN compares Georgia DL Jalen Carter to Jets' Quinnen Williams (News)

University of Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter made it official Tuesday by declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft. Carter is expected to be one of the first non-quarterbacks selected in the first round.

The Chicago Bears secured the No. 1 overall pick after finishing the 2022 season with a 3-14 record. Most draft analysts expect general manager Ryan Poles will trade out of the top pick, but if he stays on the clock, Carter could be his guy.

The Bears will make defense a priority in free agency and the 2023 NFL Draft. Carter would fill the all-important three-technique role in coach Matt Eberflus’ defense, making him an incredible marriage of value meeting need.

If the Chicago Bears sign a defensive lineman like Daron Payne (Commanders) in free agency, their attention could turn to Alabama’s Will Anderson Jr. with the first selection.

Even if Poles trades down, he’ll likely target a draft range that allows for Carter or Anderson to become a Chicago Bear.
