Bears could trade No. 1 pick at NFL Combine if price is right
ESPN’s Adam Schefeter said the Chicago Bears could trade the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft at the NFL Combine this week…
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears could trade the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft at the NFL Combine this week if they get the right offer.
Schefter appeared on ESPN 1000’s Kap and J. Hood and provided these nuggets of information:
Amazing stuff from @AdamSchefter on @thekapman & @tweetjhood.
-Said the #Bears would be willing to deal #1 pick this week if the price is right.
-Discussed possibility of trading down multiple times & called it “a feeding frenzy”
-Said nobody controls #NFL offseason like Poles.— Silvy (@WaddleandSilvy) February 27, 2023

A quick aside: Kudos to Chicago Bears fans on Twitter and all the independent Bears content creators. The scenarios outlined by Schefter have been discussed at length by fans and writers since the offseason kicked off.
The best-case scenario appears to be unfolding for the Bears. A “feeding frenzy” of trades is exactly what GM Ryan Poles needs to happen to retool Chicago in the image of the NFL’s competitive rosters. If the Bears don’t have their heart set on Will Anderson Jr. or Jalen Carter, it’s within reason for Poles to trade from, say, the first pick to the second, then down to No. 4, and maybe again to No. 9. And if he does, the Chicago Bears will be enriched with a bounty of draft picks unlike any we’ve seen in recent years.
Adam Schefter reported Monday that the Chicago Bears are leaning toward trading the top pick, all but putting an end to the mind-numbing speculation about Justin Fields’ future. It would make sense for Poles to pull the trigger at the NFL Combine so he can reset the team’s 2023 draft board and, perhaps, facilitate yet another first-round deal.
