Cam Newton says he’s willing to play for Chicago Bears as Justin Fields’ backup
Former 2015 NFL MVP quarterback Cam Newton said he’s willing to play for the Chicago Bears in 2023 as Justin Fields’ backup.
The Chicago Bears already have a new backup quarterback for Justin Fields. Still, if they want a former MVP in the QB room this year, Cam Newton is interested and available.
Newton posted a video on his YouTube channel to explain that he’s willing to sign with an NFL team as a backup, but only for certain teams and quarterbacks.
Fields was one of at least 12 QBs Newton listed that he would be interested in sitting behind.

Newton recently worked out at the Auburn Pro Day and said he does not believe the NFL has 32 quarterbacks that are better than him.
He was out of the league in 2022. Newton last played in 2021 for the Carolina Panthers, his second stint with the team he took to the Super Bowl.
Chicago signed former Panthers QB PJ Walker this offseason to be Fields’ top backup, and the Bears released Trevor Siemian in a corresponding move. They also brought back Nathan Peterman as the third-string option.
Walker and Peterman have combined for fewer than 400 pass attempts in their NFL careers. While the soon-to-be 34-year-old Newton has 11 seasons under his belt with multiple Pro Bowls and a 2015 MVP award.
Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles is content with his roster moves behind Fields on the depth chart. But Cam Newton is ready and willing if he wants a veteran in the mix.
