Chicago Bears re-sign WR Dante Pettis
The Chicago Bears have re-signed Dante Pettis to a one-year deal in a move that shouldn’t prevent GM Ryan Poles from targeting a receiver in the 2023 draft.
The Chicago Bears have re-signed wide receiver Dante Pettis in a move that complicates whether the team will spend a 2023 NFL Draft pick on the position.
It’s a one-year deal for Pettis, who had 19 catches for 245 yards and three touchdowns last season. He also was the Bears’ punt returner, averaging 9.1 yards per return.

Pettis had a decent first season in Chicago in 2022, finishing the year with 245 yards and three scores. While those numbers are far from productive by normal NFL standards, the Chicago Bears’ passing game was lifeless for a large stretch last year.
Dante Pettis adds special teams value as a punt returner, which will likely be his primary role in 2023, should he make the final roster.
With Pettis locked up, the Chicago Bears wide receiver depth chart now includes DJ Moore, Chase Claypool, Darnell Mooney, Velus Jones Jr., Equanimeous St. Brown, and Pettis.
The 2023 NFL Draft should provide the Bears with an opportunity to add a quality pass-catcher in the second or third round. Neither St. Brown nor Pettis will prevent GM Ryan Poles from drafting a receiver should an upgrade be available. Their roster spots are far from a sure thing.
For now, Pettis provides the Chicago Bears with insurance at wide receiver if they strike out on draft weekend.
