6 biggest questions entering Chicago Bears training camp (2022 Season)

It’s been quite a few months for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields.

Shortly after the Bears secured the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, analysts like Mike Tannenbaum suggested Chicago should trade Fields and pivot to Bryce Young instead. Tannenbaum wasn’t alone, other former NFL executives like Mike Lombardi shared his opinion.

Fortunately for Bears fans, neither Mike was remotely close to being correct. Instead, the Chicago Bears traded the first pick for DJ Moore, the No. 9 overall, and a boatload of future NFL Draft assets, including a first-rounder in 2024.

In the 2023 NFL Draft, Bears GM Ryan Poles slid one pick back to No. 10, securing a 2024 fourth-rounder in the process, and selected Tennessee offensive tackle Darnell Wright in the first round.

The additions of Moore and Wright and the free-agent signing of guard Nate Davis were proof that Poles and the Chicago Bears are all-in on Fields.

According to ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky, it’s a strategy that will pay off in 2023.

“Justin Fields is going to be in the MVP conversation this year because he finally has the right people around him to allow his talents to excel,” Orlovsky said.

It may be premature to say Fields will be in the MVP conversation. But there’s no doubt the improvements Poles has made around him will increase his productivity as a passer. And if he has anything remotely close to the success he enjoyed as a runner in 2022, the Chicago Bears will win a lot of games.

With more wins come more personal accolades, too.

MVP? That’s a bit rich. But Justin Fields has the natural ability to make anything possible, including becoming the NFL’s most valuable player sooner than later.
