As the summer months inch closer, so too does fantasy football draft season. It’s the second-best draft season of the calendar, behind only the NFL Draft. And with the higher temperatures and long weekends at the beach come rankings, big boards, and draft strategy.

ESPN’s Field Yates published an updated 2023 fantasy football rankings (PPR format) this week, and Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields is beginning to enter the top-tier territory.

Fields is listed as QB6 and the No. 56 player overall.

For those new to fantasy football, quarterback is a position savvy owners will wait until the later rounds to select. But with the explosion of passing stats in recent years and the nuclear weapon that a running quarterback can be in your league, Fields’ climb up the rankings makes sense.

Of course, the top quarterback on Yates’ board is Patrick Mahomes, who checks in as the No. 27 player overall. Jalen Hurts, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow round out the top five.

Fields, who was just 64 yards away from setting the NFL’s single-season rushing record for a quarterback in 2022, has as much fantasy football upside as any quarterback ranked ahead of him. The upgrade in talent at the offensive line and wide receiver should result in much better passing statistics to go along with his dominant rushing ability.

Fields completed 60.4% of his passes for 2,242 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions last season. His stat sheet will drastically improve now that he’s throwing passes to DJ Moore, a seasoned Chase Claypool, and a healthy Darnell Mooney.

There’s no doubt Justin Fields will be part of many fantasy football championships this season.
