2023 Season
Bears vs. Titans: 3 things to watch in preseason opener
The Chicago Bears kick off their 2023 preseason against the Tennessee Titans, and these three storylines are worth watching for Bears fans.
There is nothing quite like the first Chicago Bears preseason game. Fans are excited to get a real live look at the players and storylines they have been following throughout training camp. It’s the first real look at some new faces (rookies) and some familiar ones, perhaps coming over from a different team.
It can also be hard to understand what expectations should be and what exactly to watch for. While some veterans and injured players won’t be in the game (Chase Claypool, Darnell Mooney, Nate Davis, etc.), there is still plenty to watch.
Here are three things to focus on for the Chicago Bears vs. Tennessee Titans 2023 preseason opener.

Rhythm on Offense
Bears coach Matt Eberflus has already stated that some starters, including Justin Fields, will see some action. If Fields is out there, it’s also safe to assume the starting offensive line would be out there to protect him.
Ideally, Getsy has a handful of plays drawn up, and the starting offense puts together a five or six-play drive leading to points. However, if they go three and out, I would suspect Fields and company would get another shot on a second series.
Focus on Fields’ feel for the offense and improved chemistry with the starting group.

Running Back Split
The Bears have three starting-caliber running backs, though Roschon Johnson might be a few weeks away. One thing to look out for is how much time each back gets and with which unit.
Travis Homer and Tresten Ebner will also see time, with Ebner and Johnson likely seeing most of the second-half action. With all the running backs healthy for the preseason game, the number of snaps for each will give the fans an indication of who the coaches want to see more of and who they feel already has a spot.

Rookies, Rookies, Rookies!
The obvious thing to look for in preseason games is how the incoming rookie class is faring. The Chicago Bears have several rookies who they expect to be contributors this season and who should see some significant playing time against the Titans.
Darnell Wright will likely get the nod to start the game at right tackle but could play into the second quarter. In addition to Wright and Johnson, the Bears would love to get a good look at Gervon Dexter, Tyrique Stevenson, Tyler Scott, and Noah Sewell. They’ve all generated some buzz at training camp. It will be fun to see how that translates into a game scenario.
