Chicago Bears safety Jaquan Brisker has been dealing with a soft-tissue injury, putting his status for Week 1’s opener against the Green Bay Packers in doubt.

Coach Matt Eberflus met with the media Monday and offered a positive update on the second-year defender’s health.

“He is right there,” Eberflus said. “He’s progressing. Wednesday’s going to be a big day for him, but it’s on the positive side.”

Brisker started all 15 games he played as a rookie in 2022. He finished the season with 104 tackles and a team-high four sacks. It was a successful rookie campaign for the second-round pick from Penn State.

Brisker is expected to elevate into a leadership role alongside Eddie Jackson in the secondary in 2023. His hard-hitting style has endeared him to Bears fans, and his presence will be desperately needed to spoil Packers quarterback Jordan Love’s debut as Green Bay’s next-gen passer.

The first official Chicago Bears Week 1 injury report comes out Wednesday.
