2023 Season
How the Chicago Bears’ stats compare to the rest of the NFL after Week 1
Here’s how the Chicago Bears stack up statistically compared to the rest of the NFL after Week 1’s loss to the Green Bay Packers.
The Chicago Bears’ 2023 season is off to a rough start after losing to the Green Bay Packers in Week 1. As if a loss isn’t bad enough, falling to the Packers is like pouring salt into an open wound.
It hurts.
But Week 2 will be here very soon, and an opportunity for a fresh start comes with it. A reboot. It’s a chance for Justin Fields and the offense to prove they’re better than what they put on display in the opener, that they’re more than just a collection of check-downs in the passing game, and the offensive line can function well enough to give Fields and his skill players a chance to make plays.
The defense can prove it has a pass rush, too, after letting Jordan Love scan through his progressions — several times, on every attempt — without pressure. Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield still has some daggers in his toolbelt, and if the Bears give him as much time as they gave Love, the results could be worse.
As for those results, here’s a look at the stats from Week 1 and how the Chicago Bears compare to the rest of the NFL. They reveal why the Bears lost so badly.
Here’s a rundown.

As the numbers suggest, the defense let the Bears down. The offense wasn’t much better, and some of the production resulted from garbage time when the Packers already had the victory in hand. But it was the defense — the pass defense especially — that was bad.
The Chicago Bears return to action on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 12:00 p.m. CST (1:00 p.m. EST) in Tampa Bay to take on the 1-0 Buccaneers. It’s a game that looked like an easy win when the 2023 schedule was announced, but after the Bucs’ upset victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1, all bets are off.
