The Chicago Bears have finally reached rock bottom. At least, it doesn’t feel like things can get much worse, and in the latest 2023 NFL Power Rankings published by ESPN, they literally can’t.

Sure, it’s still early in the 2023 season, and there have been some crazy team turnarounds in recent years. The Detroit Lions did it as recently as last season, they began the year 1-6 and nearly made the 2022 playoffs.

But this Chicago Bears team feels different. They aren’t competitive, the Lions were. They have no identity on either side of the ball, the Lions did. This Bears team feels like a club lacking the leadership required to overcome this adversity.

The Bears face the Denver Broncos in Week 4, which will put a ribbon on the season’s first quarter. Football purists tend to reserve sweeping statements until a bundle of games has been played, and the Broncos offer Chicago an opponent that’s at least beatable.

If the Chicago Bears look overmatched against a team that just surrendered a near-record 70 points in Week 3, it’ll be time to get those 2024 mock drafts fired up.
