Bears have been so bad that NFL experts like Broncos at Soldier Field in Week 4 (2023 Season)

The Chicago Bears have been so bad at the start of the 2023 season that they’re home underdogs in Week 4 against a team that just gave up a near-record 70 points and more than 700 yards of offense.

The Denver Broncos crashed and burned in Miami in Week 3. The Dolphins offense looked like the next coming of the Greatest Show on Turf, which has Bears fans hoping Justin Fields, DJ Moore, and Chicago’s offense can have at least some success at Soldier Field and jumpstart a season that’s been dead on arrival.

But that’s what Bears fans are hoping for. It’s not what NFL experts are predicting will happen.

Instead, 74% of experts polled are picking the Broncos to defeat the Bears on Sunday.

It’s a hard dose of reality that should make the most faithful Bears fan flinch. It isn’t easy to accept the narrative that’s forming around this team, but it’s a narrative that coach Matt Eberflus has yet to figure out a way to fix.

Maybe the fix will come via the legs of Justin Fields and Roschon Johnson.

If there’s any aspect of this game that the Chicago Bears can exploit, it’s Denver’s run defense. The Broncos were shredded by the Dolphins’ running backs in Week 3 and rank last in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game (177.7). The Bears must find a way to get Fields and Johnson cooking early. If they do, there’s a chance they could complete and even win the game.

Chicago Bears’ 2023 season isn’t over yet

If the Chicago Bears somehow pull off the unexpected win on Sunday, they’ll improve to 1-3 with a game against the Washington Commanders in Week 5. The Commanders aren’t exactly a Super Bowl contender, and while they’ll be favored to beat the Bears regardless of Week 4’s outcome, Chicago will have a chance to win that game, too.

And if the Bears somehow rip off two wins in a row, a Week 6 game against the also currently winless Minnesota Vikings could present Chicago with an opportunity to even their record at 3-3.

I know it’s wishful thinking. But it’s too early in the season to give up outright. The Bears have one week of blind faith left before fans make a hard pivot to the 2024 NFL Draft.

Beat the Broncos. Keep hope alive.
