2023 Season
Fantasy Football, Week 6: These 4 players should be in your starting lineup
Fantasy Football Week 6: These four players should be in your starting lineup, whether it’s daily or season-long leagues.
Another wild week of Fantasy Football is in the books. Looking back on the Week 5 selections, De’Von Achane dominated once again (though, he will unfortunately miss some time with a knee injury), Cole Kmet notched a score, Christian Kirk had a solid outing, and CJ Stroud performed well despite it being his weakest Fantasy performance so far.
Overall, these selections should have helped you win in DraftKings Daily Fantasy contests or bolstered your weekly ESPN/Yahoo lineups.
As we look towards Week 6, some reshuffling must be done at key skill positions. Wide receivers and running backs are becoming almost as much of a toss-up in fantasy football as tight ends. Week 4 forecasted the emergence of some under-the-radar “bang for your buck” talent. And in Week 5, it didn’t exactly pay off. I was high on Cardinals rookie WR Michael Wilson’s momentum following a two-touchdown performance in Week 4. It flopped…in both of my Yahoo leagues.
This season, in particular, it’s tough to find that consistent, under-the-radar, affordable buy that can hit a solid double-digit point output to pad Fantasy scores. De’Von Achane was that guy, but like many other rising stars, the injury bug has been cruel to many elite performers.
It’s always more challenging to get a read on the waiver wire and balance your spending dollars in daily contests as the season continues on. As tricky as things may be, these four players are worth considering in Week 6.
QB: Brock Purdy (SF) vs. CLE
Purdy passed for 252 yards and four touchdowns against the vaunted Dallas Cowboys defense in Week 5 in primetime. How are you not going to at least consider starting Purdy against the Browns, who have given up 24 or more points in three of their first four games?
Forget the debate about whether Brock Purdy is a product of the 49ers system. It doesn’t matter. He has arguably the best supporting cast in football, and they, too, will generate points for him. And that’s all that matters in fantasy football. He’s a relatively affordable option in many daily contests and someone to consider strongly for your QB slot on Sunday.
WR: DJ Moore (CHI) vs. MIN
DJ Moore is coming off a career game, with 230 receiving yards and three touchdowns (arguably could have been 4, if not for a highly-questionable officiating call) against a solid Commanders defense in Week 5. Imagine what he can do against a Vikings defense that’s been vulnerable against the pass this year.
Moore is going to have another big game. He’s featured in my Week 6 Bears matchup to watch, and I see him coming away with another dominant performance. And while I’m sure his price has risen in DraftKings, he’s one of the safer bets for consistent output at wide receiver.
RB: David Montgomery (DET) vs. TB
Hello, old friend. David Montgomery is proving he’s worth every dollar of the free-agent contract he received from the Lions this offseason. He’s thriving with a high volume of touches (over 50 attempts and four touchdowns over the last two weeks). He’s an automatic play against Tampa Bay on Sunday.
TE: Evan Engram (JAC) vs. IND (‘Under the Radar’ Selection of the Week)
Full transparency: I could have easily slotted Cole Kmet here again. But. I’m trying to mix things up and find at least one cheap option that can pan out favorably each week. So, I’m going with Engram, who has had a solid year thus far. For the amount of targets he’s getting, he’s producing with receptions (roughly six per game).
Engram is still waiting for that elusive first score of the 2023 season. I think that could happen this week against the Colts. It’s a “boom or bust” take, but if you’re pinching pennies in DraftKings, consider Engram as your tight end or a FLEX option.
