NFL Draft
This 2024 NFL mock draft does NOT have the Bears selecting Caleb Williams
The Chicago Bears have been a popular destination for Caleb Williams in most 2024 NFL mock drafts, but this one takes a different approach.
It’s incredible what two good games can do for a player. In the case of Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, he’s played arguably the best football of his career over the last two weeks, and the narrative around his role as the future of the Bears’ franchise has gone from shaky to a state of restored confidence.
Before Fields’ breakout against the Denver Broncos in Week 4, most 2024 NFL Mock Drafts had the Bears selecting USC quarterback Caleb Williams No. 1 overall. The projections were logical. Fields didn’t look great. And whether it was his fault or not, there was no way to justify Chicago passing on a generational prospect.
But it wasn’t long ago that Justin Fields was a blue-chip first-round quarterback, too. And we’re beginning to see why.
Fields has been on fire over the last eight quarters. He’s completed 43-of-64 passes for 617 yards and eight touchdowns with only one interception.
As a result, new mock drafts, like the one published this week on The Draft Wire, are presenting a different spin on what the Chicago Bears could do in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Chicago Bears 2024 NFL Draft plans changing by the week
In The Draft Wire’s mock, the Bears pick first and second overall and use those selections on a pair of pass-catchers for Justin Fields: Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison at No. 1 and Georgia tight end Brock Bowers at No. 2.

Bears fans might fall out of their chairs if these picks become a reality. Adding Harrison and Bowers in the same draft class would be a dream scenario for dynasty fantasy football players, let alone Ryan Poles and the Chicago Bears.
Imagine an offense led by Fields throwing passes to DJ Moore, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Brock Bowers, not to mention Cole Kmet and, potentially, Darnell Mooney.
Harrison has been as dominant as expected for Ohio State in 2023. The son of Hall-of-Famer and former Colt Marvin Harrison Sr., the Buckeyes star has caught 25 passes for 499 yards and four touchdowns this season.
Bowers, who many consider the highest-graded pass-catching tight end to enter the NFL in many years, has been even more productive than Harrison. He’s totaled 37 catches for 545 yards and four scores for the undefeated Bulldogs.
Adding elite talents like Harrison and Bowers to Fields’ arsenal of weapons is borderline unfair.
The Draft Wire’s mock draft also extends into the second and third rounds. Poles and the Bears add LSU defensive lineman Maason Smith and Georgia center Sedrick Van Pran.
I especially like the Van Pran selection. He’s a player who many pegged as a fringe first-round pick at the start of the 2023 college football season. It seemed like a bit of an overvaluation at the time, considering centers rarely get selected in the top 32. If he falls to the top of Round 3, he’d be an ideal target to become the young starting-caliber center this team needs.
Chicago Bears fans can finally fantasize about what a 2024 NFL draft haul might look like with Justin Fields under center. It’s remarkable how quickly this roster can flip from uninspiring to an exciting collection of young stars in one draft class. The Bears will be able to do that this April, especially if Fields continues at his current pace.
