The Chicago Bears claimed former 2021 first-round pick (No. 17 overall) Alex Leatherwood off waivers Wednesday in what was the biggest transaction of the day across the league.
Leatherwood suffered through a dismal rookie season last year, one that began as a right tackle and ended with a kick inside to guard. While there was speculation he could get cut, it seemed unlikely considering his draft pedigree.
The Raiders underwent a regime change this offseason and determined Leatherwood was, in fact, expendable. One team's trash is another's treasure, right?
Leatherwood is now one of Chicago's five best offensive linemen and has a chance to earn a starting job early in the 2022 season.
