So much for resting starters in the final preseason game of the summer. The Chicago Bears will play their first-teamers, including quarterback Justin Fields, for the first half of Week 3's preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns.
Head coach Matt Eberflus met with the media Tuesday and confirmed his plan.
Eberflus says starters will play 25-30 plays Saturday, possibly through first half. That includes QB Justin Fields. Some veterans may exit earlier.

Linebacker Roquan Smith, who ended his hold-in Saturday, will make his preseason debut as well.
Roquan Smith will play the Bears' preseason finale Saturday, Matt Eberflus said. It's part of his ramp-up phase towards the regular season.

It's a risky strategy to play Fields this week, but it's one that Eberflus feels is important to establish some identity before the start of the regular season.
Eberflus says QB Justin Fields is expected to play the first half. Looking to start establishing their identity and style of play to lead them into the regular season. Looking for aggressive approach and a clean game. @WBBMNewsradio

Despite most teams treating the last preseason game as nothing more than an opportunity for veterans to rest, Eberflus and the Chicago Bears are attacking it like it's a game week during the regular season.
Matt Eberflus said this week is a "mock game week." Today the team will work on first and second down offense and defense.
