2023 Season
WATCH: Montez Sweat says he’s ‘grateful’ to be a Bear and ‘ready to get to work’
New Chicago Bears defensive end Montez Sweat met with the media Wednesday and said he ‘s ready to play in Week 9’s game against the Saints.
The Chicago Bears don’t have a pass rush in 2023. At least, they didn’t until Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.
That’s when things changed for Matt Eberflus’s defensive front. General manager Ryan Poles traded a 2024 second-round pick to the Washington Commaners for defensive end Montez Sweat.
Sweat joined the Commanders as a first-round pick in 2019 and has been a steady performer throughout his career. He’s on pace for a career-high in sacks with 6.5 through eight games. His previous high watermark was nine in 2020.
Sweat met with the media on Wednesday and said he was grateful to be a member of the Chicago Bears and is hopeful that a long-term contract can be worked out. He also said he thinks he’ll play in Sunday’s Week 9 game against the New Orleans Saints.
