As the NFL season rolls into Week 10, Chicago Bears fans are already beginning to look ahead to 2024.

A fresh record and a clean slate.

Week 9 was strange. It was a loss that was heavy with turnovers and reckless abandon (for better or worse) that ultimately answered many questions (albeit with some caveats).

We know that Tyson Bagent is not the savior that some Bears fans anticipated, but he is a serviceable backup who can keep the team in games, should he be needed.

Cole Kmet is one of the league’s most reliable tight ends, without question.

Darnell Mooney still has playmaking ability but is viewed as the third or fourth target in the offense.

And Justin Fields.

It’s tough for Bears fans to process the questionable future of Fields, as another guy they could have drafted, Houston Texans rookie CJ Stroud, smashes a historic day complete with five touchdowns and 470 passing yards.

But there’s also Carolina Panthers rookie Bryce Young. He’s struggled this season and should make Bears fans wonder if they are better off with Fields than rolling the dice by drafting a quarterback early in Round 1 again.

The Bears will get a glimpse of Bryce Young on Thursday night as Chicago returns home for a primetime matchup. And while the records are nowhere near impressive for either team, the featured matchup in this game will at least be fun.

DJ Moore vs. Carolina Defense

The Panthers’ secondary is banged up, with elite edge rusher Brian Burns and cornerback CJ Henderson both out with injuries. This bodes well for a Chicago Bears team that is still missing the dual-threat ability of Justin Fields.

Even with Tyson Bagent at the helm, the Bears’ offense could not have asked for a better matchup to get rolling, not to mention it’s DJ Moore’s revenge game.

For the first time, Moore will go up against his former Carolina teammates, and while it would have been nice to see Fields out there slinging the ball to him, Bagent has every opportunity to get Moore involved early and often.

The Panthers’ injury report suggests that Bagent, despite a Week 9 of turnovers, will have plenty of chances for the deep ball in what should be a dominant display of offense from the Chicago Bears.

Yes, dominant. Remember: they’re playing the Carolina Panthers.

I wish we could have seen a showdown of Justin Fields vs. Bryce Young, highlighting “what is, what could have been, and what may no longer be,” but I’m still excited to see Moore out there making plays.

It would be gross negligence if offensive coordinator Luke Getsy doesn’t feature Moore in this game.

I have no doubt DJ Moore will dominate the Panthers’ defense and have yet another strong showing on Thursday Night Football.
