Justin Fields won’t play Thursday night vs. Panthers
Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields won’t play against the Panthers, paving the way for another Tyson Bagent start.
Any hope that quarterback Justin Fields would return to the lineup Thursday night against the Carolina Panthers may vanished with the Chicago Bears’ updated injury report on Wednesday.
Fields is listed as doubtful, but coach Matt Eberflus said he hasn’t been cleared by the medical staff yet.
Rookie Tyson Bagent will make his fourth start.
“He’s progressing every day,” Eberflus said of Fields. ‘He is not medically cleared yet. (Tyson) Bagent will be our starter for the game.”
General manager Ryan Poles will face the most difficult decision of his young tenure with the Bears this offseason. He must decide whether Justin Fields is the guy or if a 2024 NFL draft prospect — or even Tyson Bagent — offers more upside as the team’s quarterback of the future.
Bagent will get another chance to prove he can be that guy against a lowly Carolina Panthers team in primetime.
