Five games remain in the Chicago Bears’ 2023 season, and they’re the most important five games in recent team history.

And, no, that isn’t hyperbole.

The Bears have five games left to evaluate Justin Fields. Will he be the quarterback GM Ryan Poles builds the team around this offseason? Or will Chicago turn their attention to the 2024 NFL draft and one of the premier prospects like Caleb Williams and Drake Maye?

Will Matt Eberflus’ system produce enough positive results (and wins) to keep him around for a third season? Or will visions of Jim Harbaugh be too enticing to ignore?

Momentum toward answering these questions will develop this Sunday as the Chicago Bears welcome the Lions to Soldier Field in their final matchup of the year. The Bears’ embarrassing collapse in Week 11 somehow offers hope that Chicago can pull off an upset victory and stack back-to-back NFC north wins for the first time in what feels like forever. It really has been … forever.

Darnell Wright vs. Aidan Hutchinson will be a fun matchup to watch, as will DJ Moore against a Lions secondary that’s been vulnerable as of late.

Montez Sweat vs. Penei Sewell is must-see TV, and we’ll see if Jaylon Johnson can take one step closer to a massive payday by holding onto a pick-six if one comes his way.
