Bears hire new quarterbacks coach to work with Justin Fields or Caleb Williams
The Chicago Bears have a new quarterbacks coach. But which quarterback will he be coaching?
The Chicago Bears have hired Kerry Joseph as their new quarterbacks coach. He’ll be charged with getting the most out of Justin Fields … or Caleb Williams … or Drake Maye.
The mystery surrounding who will be the Bears’ quarterback in 2024 will undoubtedly make Joseph’s offseason a bit more challenging. Still, his familiarity with offensive coordinator Shane Waldron should result in a smooth transition to Chicago.
Joseph was the Seattle Seahawks’ assistant quarterbacks coach for the last two seasons. He served as the team’s assistant wide receivers coach in 2021, bringing a wide range of knowledge to the Bears’ 2024 quarterback room.
And another big bonus? He’s coaching the American Team’s quarterbacks at the 2024 Senior Bowl.
Joseph’s playing days included time in the NFL and CFL, he played safety for the Seahawks from 1999-2002 before heading north of the border and becoming a quarterback in the CFL.
Can’t argue with the Waldron/Canales/Joseph QB coaching tree
Joseph played in the CFL and also has WR coaching experience. Looks like another strong hire https://t.co/WTfnQrcgq6

The coaching news isn’t all good for the Bears’ offensive staff, however. A top name in the wide receiver coaching circuit, Sanjay Lal, withdrew his name from consideration to join Chicago’s staff.
Update: Lal has withdrawn his name from Bears consideration, per source. Will be looking into other opportunities. https://t.co/sVTGd2GMoo

It’s unclear why Lal decided against joining forces with Shane Waldron. The pair have been part of the Seahawks’ offensive staff over the last two seasons.
Lal would’ve been a fantastic grab, no pun intended.
