Jay Glazer: ‘I think the Bears can get a lot for Justin Fields’
Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer continued the theme that the Chicago Bears would get a haul if they traded quarterback Justin Fields.
Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer is the latest well-connected media personality to suggest the Chicago Bears will get a nice return if they trade quarterback Justin Fields.
Remember, Mel Kiper Jr. and Adam Schefter said they think the Bears could get a first-round pick for Fields. Now, it’s Glazer who’s fanning those flames.
“I think you can get a lot for Justin Fields,” Glazer said in an appearance on the Mully and Haugh Show. “Listen, when you don’t have a quarterback in this league, life is terrible. So, I think people would be offering a lot for Justin Fields.”
That raises the question: if the Bears have a quarterback that other teams will want, shouldn’t they keep him and trade the first pick in the 2024 NFL draft for a king’s ransom?
According to Glazer, the answer is no.
“I would take Caleb and trade Justin,” he said. ‘I don’t think there’s much of an argument.”
The Justin Fields vs. Caleb Williams debate will continue until Poles makes a trade — any trade. Bears fans are divided, there are as many Fields-backers as there are fans who want Williams under center in 2024, and it’s created a very fractured fanbase on social media.
But the signs are pointing toward Williams being the Chicago Bears” quarterback next season, and hopefully, for many years beyond that. It is the the logical choice, both from a financial and talent perspective. Williams is the better quarterback, and he’ll be cheaper over the next five years.
Meanwhile, Fields is a locker room leader and fan-favorite because of his good-guy persona and exceptional playmaking ability. It’ll be difficult to watch him win games and make plays in a different uniform in 2024, but that’s life in the NFL. It’s a business, and the best business decision for Poles and the Chicago Bears is to turn the page and draft Caleb Williams.
As the old saying goes, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Jay Glazer, Adam Schefter, and Mel Kiper have contributed to what’s slowly becoming a bonfire of Justin Fields’ trade valuation, and it should have all Bears fans excited.
