Jim Harbaugh adds failed former Bears coach to his coaching staff

Chicago Bears fans clamored for the team to fire Matt Eberflus and hire Jim Harbaugh as head coach at the end of the 2023 season. Despite Eberflus’ strong second half of the season, the Bears’ rough loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 18 was enough to make fans reach their breaking point. That, combined with Harbaugh winning the College Football Championship and clearly eying a return to the NFL, had Bears fans wanting their former quarterback back on the sideline.
But it wasn’t meant to be. Eberflus will return in 2024, and there’s no indication that he’ll begin the year as a lame-duck coach. General manager Ryan Poles is one of his biggest fans, and team president Kevin Warren seemed impressed by Eberflus’ leadership qualities. And, let’s be honest: Chicago did win seven games one year after a complete and total roster teardown.
Eberflus did a fine job, even though he had some early-season fourth-quarter collapses. I’m fine with him getting a Year 3, and if the Bears continue their steady improvement, he’ll be around a lot longer than that.
As for Harbaugh? Well, maybe one of his coaching hires with the Los Angeles Chargers will give Chicago Bears fans a sense of relief that he isn’t their head coach.
keep “em coming
Trestman is the poster child for coaching failures in Chicago. The Bears were made fun of when they hired him, and they were made fun of when they fired him. He returned to the CFL in 2016 after a brief attempt to resuscitate his career in Baltimore and then found refuge in the XFL in 2020.
He’s been out of work since then.
Now, in 2024, he’s baaaaack.
And just think, Bears fans, if Chicago hired Jim Harbaugh? Maybe, just maybe, the ghost of Marc Trestman would’ve come with him. Brutal.
