Bears' secondary ranked second-worst in NFL by Pro Football Focus (2022 Season)

The Chicago Bears are amid a mini-roster purge on Thursday. First came news of the team’s decision to release Cody Whitehair. Now, it’s Eddie Jackson who’s received his walking papers.

Jackson started a total of 100 games for the Bears, was a two-time Pro Bowl player, and an All-Pro selection in 2018.

Eddie Jackson has battled injuries in recent years, including last season when he appeared in just 12 games.

Still, Jackson’s Bears career was an impressive one, and concludes with 459 tackles and 15 interceptions.

The Chicago Bears cleared more than $12 million in salary cap space with Jackson’s release, which, combined with Whitehair’s departure, now gives GM Ryan Poles an additional $21+ million in free agency spending power this year.

The Bears must find a replacement for Jackson in the starting lineup, and I expect Poles to target a veteran in free agency. If Antoine Winfield (Buccaneers) makes it to the open market, you can bet on Poles making a full-court press for his services.
