Insider says Bears QB debate is NOT about Caleb Williams vs. Justin Fields
Maybe it’s time for Chicago Bears fans to reconsider what the real quarterback debate is, and it’s not Caleb Williams vs. Justin Fields.
Longtime Chicago Bears reporter Brad Biggs shed some light on the team’s quarterback debate in his most recent Q&A column for the Chicago Tribune, and it has Justin Fields fans up in arms.
Biggs suggested that the Bears’ quarterback debate isn’t about Caleb Williams vs. Fields. Instead, it’s about which quarterback the Bears should select in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Yes, that means Chicago has all but decided to trade Justin Fields.
“From my perspective, there is no internal debate in which the Bears are kicking around the idea of keeping Justin Fields versus drafting a quarterback,” Biggs wrote. “I believe the work being done is to determine which quarterback they should select. So, the whole Fields versus Caleb Williams debate is a pointless exercise.”
I get it, Biggs is suggesting this is his opinion — it’s from his perspective. But anyone who’s paid attention to Biggs over the years knows he’s as dialed in with the Chicago Bears as any beat reporter. His opinion is more than just that, it’s based on intel he’s gathered, whether Fields fans want to accept that or not.
Sure, it doesn’t mean Justin Fields will definitely be traded. Things can change at the NFL Scouting Combine, which kicks off next week. The Bears could be blown away by an offer they can’t refuse for the No. 1 overall pick. But I doubt that will happen. Instead, I agree with Biggs: the Bears will take a quarterback with the first pick in the 2024 NFL draft, and I can’t see a reality in which that quarterback isn’t Caleb Williams.

And even if a universe exists that Caleb Williams isn’t the guy, I find it hard to believe the Chicago Bears would stick with Fields over Drake Maye, too.
So Kurt Warner prefers Caleb Williams over Justin Fields.
Is the Justin Fields cult still slobbing on Chase Daniel?

I trust Brad Biggs and his gut instincts. There’s no reason not to. He isn’t a national NFL reporter who’s taking a wild guess. He’s a well-connected Chicago Bears insider who does have connections inside Halas Hall.
