NFL Draft
Here’s what DJ Moore wants the Bears to do in the 2024 NFL Draft
Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore is still very much Team Justin Fields as the 2024 NFL Combine kicks off.
Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore has been one of the most outspoken advocates for Justin Fields this offseason. He’s held firm in his position that the Bears should stick with Fields and not replace him with Caleb Williams or Drake Maye in the 2024 NFL Draft.
In a recent appearance on NFL Total Access, Moore continued beating that drum.
“I still don’t think they compare to Justin right now,” Moore said.
Moore had the best season of his career catching passes from Fields in 2023, so it makes sense that he wants his quarterback to return next year.
Instead of targeting a passer, Moore thinks the Bears should give him some help in the wide receiver room.
“I want to say, yeah, we could add another receiver,” Moore said. “They got some real talented ones [in the draft]. I know Marvin (Harrison Jr.), so that’d be a choice of mine. But any of those guys that are the big names, I’ve seen and really liked.”
One of the big reasons why the Bears targeted Moore in last offseason’s blockbuster trade is his character. He’s one of the NFL’s good guys, so it doesn’t surprise me that he’s lobbying for Justin Fields, who, by all accounts, is a beloved member of the locker room. It also makes sense that an established NFL veteran will campaign for another veteran over a draft prospect whose name has yet to be called.
For now.
Call it a hunch, but I think DJ Moore will be just fine if the Chicago Bears select Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. In fact, he’s hinted at being fine with that outcome earlier in the offseason, even if most of his public comments are supportive of Fields.
General manager Ryan Poles will ultimately do what’s best for the Bears at quarterback. He’ll certainly weigh the opinions of veterans like Moore, but at the end of the day, if Poles believes Williams will give Chicago the best chance to sustain success and compete for a Super Bowl, he’ll have little problem pulling the trigger at the No. 1 pick and trading Justin Fields.
The 2024 NFL Combine kicks off this week, where most of the league’s offseason trades and blockbuster deals get done. We should learn more about what the Chicago Bears plan to do at quarterback over the next several days.
