Bears land franchise QB and game-changing WR in Mel Kiper Mock Draft
ESPN NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. ends the Justin Fields era in his latest 2024 NFL mock draft.
The Godfather of the NFL Draft, Mel Kiper Jr., is back with another 2024 mock draft Wednesday, and it’s a doozy for the Chicago Bears.
We all agree at this point that Justin Fields is a goner, right? After GM Ryan Poles said without saying that he’s going to be fair to Fields in an inevitable trade, and after Poles agreed that USC quarterback Caleb Williams has similarities to Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes, almost everyone has connected the dots: Caleb Williams will be a Chicago Bear.
That “everyone” includes Kiper, who sends Williams to the Bears with the first overall pick in his mock.
“As we approach the one-year anniversary of the Bears trading the No. 1 overall pick to Carolina, I continue to believe they will keep this selection and move on from Justin Fields,” Kiper wrote. “It’s about restarting the quarterback clock and taking one of the best all-around prospects of the past decade. Williams has a rare skill set in terms of arm strength, accuracy, decision-making and mobility. Chicago will need to continue to help him: The organization could add a playmaker with the No. 9 pick, and it also has cap space to make moves in free agency.”
As for the No. 9 pick? Williams gets a nuclear bomb to target in LSU star Malik Nabers.
“Nabers had 89 receptions for 1,569 yards with 14 touchdowns last season, with 1,009 of those yards and 12 of those scores coming from when he lined up in the slot,” Kiper wrote. “That versatility would suit new coordinator Shane Waldron’s offense. I have four wideouts in the top 11 of my rankings, and all four likely would be top-10 locks in any other draft.”
I’ve said multiple times throughout NFL Draft season that it wouldn’t surprise me if Nabers gets selected ahead of Marvin Harrison Jr., and while that doesn’t happen in Mel Kiper’s mock draft, I’m still super confident in Nabers’ ability to be a game-wrecker in the NFL. Think Tyreek Hill with more size and length. Yeah, he’s that dude.
A 2024 NFL Draft class that features Caleb Williams and Mailk Nabers is exactly what a Chicago Bears fanbase will need to get over the soon-to-come Justin Fields trade. And, call it a hunch, but I think those Fields fans will get over it real quick.
