ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky came out FIRING with a scorching hot take on Thursday morning’s episode of Get Up, opining that the Chicago Bears shouldn’t take Caleb Williams or Drake Maye with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Instead, GM Ryan Poles should choose LSU’s Jayden Daniels.

Watch:

Orlovsky thinks Daniels’ game will translate best to the NFL.

“Jayden Daniels should be the guy,” Orlovsky said. “If I were the Chicago Bears right now, I would take Jayden Daniels out of LSU. That is not a knock on Caleb Williams, that is a plus on Jayden Daniels.”

There’s no doubt that Daniels is a fantastic quarterback prospect. I’ve compared him to Randall Cunningham, the old-school star of the Philadelphia Eagles. But the Bears are about to move on from Justin Fields, whose game is eerily similar to Daniels’.

Fields also has an extra 30 pounds of body armor that give that play style a chance to last. Daniels, meanwhile, might not weigh 200 pounds.

I get it. NFL analysts need hot takes, it gets boring saying the same thing day after day, which at this point is Caleb Williams to the Chicago Bears.

There’s no chance (literally, no chance) that Poles will select Daniels first overall. Instead, he’ll keep Fields and trade the top pick if Williams doesn’t check the franchise quarterback boxes.

While I appreciate Orlovsky’s outside-the-box thinking, this isn’t happening.
