The Justin Fields trade market has officially shrunk by one team.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing Russell Wilson to a one-year deal, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter.

The Steelers were long considered a match for Fields because of their offensive philosophy and coach Mike Tomlin’s affection for the former Ohio State star. That match is no more.

The Chicago Bears may find themselves stuck with no choice but to trade Fields for pennies on the dollar, especially if the Atlanta Falcons sign Kirk Cousins, which most analysts expect will happen once the legal tampering window opens on March 11.

There remains a slim chance that the Bears will decide keeping Fields — even if they draft Caleb Williams — is the best decision for the team. There’s at least some logic to support that proposition. Fields can begin the 2024 season as the starter and play as long as he deserves to while Williams adjusts to life as a pro. It would be risky, especially if Fields plays well. It’s not that that’s a bad thing, but it would create a greater divide between the pro-Fields players in the locker room and the front office that wants to turn the offense over to Williams.

Buckle up, Chicago Bears fans. This ride is about to get really bumpy.
