The Chicago Bears met with Texas Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy according to a report from Tony Pauline. The meeting occurred on Monday afternoon. The Bears were present for Worthy’s Pro Day performance. The Bears sent wide receivers coach Chris Beaty to Texas. Beaty was one of 11 receiver position coaches in attendance.

Worthy recorded career highs in receptions (75) and receiving yards (1,014) this past season. Worthy was an explosive vertical playmaker for one of the most productive offenses in the nation. Texas advanced to the College Football Playoff as a result.

Worthy set an all-time record by running a 4.21 at the NFL Combine. That result has increased his pre-draft stock while likely establishing him as a first-round pick. The Bears could consider drafting a receiver with the No. 9 overall selection, although it’d qualify as a surprise if Worthy was drafted that highly.

It’s worth acknowledging that premium speed goes high. John Ross, the receiver who owned the all-time 40 record prior to Worthy, was drafted No. 9. The Raiders once drafted Darius Heyward-Bey No. 7 overall after he ran a 4.30.

Worthy wasn’t the only receiver that coach Beaty watched at Pro Day. The Longhorns have two other receivers, Adonai Mitchell and Jordan Whittington, that will get drafted. Mitchell is another likely first-round pick after a dominant NFL Combine performance. If the Bears bypass opportunities to address the position in the early rounds, Whittington could be an option in the fourth round.
