Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus has been impressed with USC QB Caleb Williams throughout the pre-draft process
A ton of outstanding content has emerged from the Annual League Meetings this week. Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus, general manager Ryan Poles, and even president Kevin Warren have spoken on several topics at length. Eberflus joined the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero for a particularly intriguing conversation about USC quarterback Caleb Williams.
“He’s an outstanding young man, and everything looks great in terms of his personality, his character, his football knowledge …”#Bears coach Matt Eberflus joined me to talk Caleb Williams (and more) on @gmfb @nflnetwork pic.twitter.com/Qw39zaQYqG

“We’re going through the process,” Eberflus said in relation to Williams. “We’ll start going through the tape and make sure we’re squared away with our decision. “It was great,” Eberflus continued while detailing the Bears” pre-draft vetting of Williams at USC’s Pro Day. “We went out there the night before and had dinner with him. We spent a lot of time with him the next day. It was outstanding. He’s an outstanding young man. Everything looks great in terms of his personality and character and his football knowledge. We gathered a lot of information from that visit,” Eberflus concluded.
It’s clear that Eberflus and the Bears’ decision-makers have been incredibly impressed with Williams throughout the pre-draft process. Eberflus and Co. took note of Williams’ on-and-off-field interactions with his teammates, his willingness to ignore his phone at dinner, and so on. Williams is acing the process.
Eberflus also touched on wide receiver Keenan Allen, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Chargers in a blockbuster trade.
“Keenan Allen is an unbelievable pro,” Eberflus said. “Me being a defensive-minded guy, he’s tough to cover. We’re certainly excited to have him.”
Eberflus ended by delivering an exciting message regarding the 2024 Bears.
“We’ve had two years to build a foundation,” Eberflus added. “We’re going to bring in blue [chip] players at No. 1 and 9 overall. We’re excited about the free agency class we brought in as well. It’s an exciting time.”
