Todd McShay says Bears will trade No. 9 pick if these two players are gone
Former ESPN NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay shared some fantastic intel about the Chicago Bears’ plans with the ninth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Former ESPN NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay shared some fantastic intel about the Chicago Bears’ plans with the ninth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft just hours before the first overall pick will be announced.
No, it isn’t a bombshell with the No. 1 pick. That’ll be Caleb Williams.
Instead, McShay tweeted that the Bears have two players they’ll “stick and pick” at the ninth selection, if both are gone, GM Ryan Poles will look to trade out.
According to McShay, the Chicago Bears’ plan is:
1. Trade back and recover picks.
2. Target Texas DL Byron Murphy after sliding back a few slots.
3. However, if Malik Nabers (WR, LSU) or Rome Odunze (WR, Washington) is still on the board at No. 9, the Bears will keep the pick and choose whoever falls.
This makes a ton of sense and should have Bears fans thrilled.
Yes, the Chicago Bears need more picks, but not at the expense of adding an elite playmaker like Nabers or a steady, high-floor pass-catcher like Odunze. If Murphy is Poles’ preferred choice, he can certainly trade back a few spots (perhaps to the Denver Broncos’ pick at No. 12) and still land the top 3-tech in the class.
Buckle up, Bears fans. It’s going to be a wild ride.
