NFL Draft
These 4 Bears lost the most in the 2024 NFL Draft
These four veteran Chicago Bears players were put on notice during the 2024 NFL Draft
The Chicago Bears entered the 2024 NFL Draft with the same goal as their 31 competing franchises: to get younger and cheaper at critical positions. The Bears drafted five players. Plenty of competition was added to the roster throughout the 2024 draft. Certain players no longer possess the job security they once possessed.
These four existing Chicago Bears players have officially been put on notice following the conclusion of the 2024 NFL Draft.
BRAXTON JONES | GUARD
The Bears passed on an opportunity to draft a premium offensive tackle like Olu Fashanu at No. 9 overall, but Poles found terrific value in Yale’s Kiran Amegadjie in the third round. Amegadjie is a physical specimen still scratching the surface of his long-term potential. His presence is bad news for starter Braxton Jones, who is often described as a bridge-type starter. It may not be long before Amegadjie pushes Jones for the right to protect Caleb Williams’ blind side.

TRENTON GILL | PUNTER
It was a very, very bad weekend for Bears punter Trenton Gill. Poles drafted prolific Iowa punter Tory Taylor in the fourth round. That’s basically a No. 1 overall pick in specialists terms, and a kiss of death for Gill’s time in Chicago. Gill had a below-average 2023 season, averaging a 25th-ranked 46.1 yards per punt. The Bears’ net average of 40.4 yards per punt ranked dead last in the league. Taylor is Chicago’s starting punter for the foreseeable future.
VELUS JONES JR. | WR
Velus Jones Jr. is among Chicago’s worst third-round picks in recent memory. Jones Jr. has recorded just 11 receptions across two professional seasons. The former Tennessee standout has contributed on special teams as a returner, but you expect more out of a third-round pick.
Drafting Rome Odunze at No. 9 pushes Jones Jr. further down the depth chart. He’ll enter training camp as no higher than WR5. It’s a massive offseason for Jones Jr., who is firmly on the roster bubble.
DOMINIQUE ROBINSON | DE
The Bears drafted Dominique Robinson in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, hoping he’d develop into a quality rotational rusher. Fast-forward to today, and he’s recorded just 2.0 sacks through two seasons. Robinson barely surpassed 200 defensive snaps in 2023. The Bears traded a 2025 fourth-round selection to re-enter the 2024 NFL Draft and draft Kansas edge defender Austin Booker in the fifth round. Booker has an excellent chance to catapult himself ahead of Robinson on the depth chart behind Montez Sweat and DeMarcus Walker.
