Former Bears QB Justin Fields getting ripped for practice footage
Former Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields hasn’t had the best offseason in advance of his first year with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Chicago Bears fans still have a soft spot for quarterback Justin Fields. He was the Caleb Williams before Caleb Williams. You know the one, the guy who was supposed to break the franchise’s century-long quarterback curse.
At times, Fields looked like he might be the one who could break that curse. He established himself as one of the NFL’s elite running quarterbacks, but his passing always left fans wanting more. His progressions were slow, his decision-making wasn’t great, and his throwing motion always seemed a tick or two behind the pace of the game’s top passers.
As a result, the Chicago Bears moved on from Justin Fields when they secured the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Shockingly, the trade market for Fields was virtually non-existent, the Bears only managed to get a future sixth-round pick from the Pittsburgh Steelers for him.
Indeed, there is a chance that Fields will unseat current Steelers starter Russell Wilson at some point this season. Perhaps he’ll regain the magic that made him one of the best quarterbacks in college football during his time at Ohio State. But for that to happen, he must speed up his pacing, and in a recent video of his offseason workouts shared on X, it doesn’t look like he’s improving much.
Even former Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell chimed in:
that ball gettin there lateeeeeeeee .. I know it’s routes on air, but this is telling you a lot https://t.co/eKm7WJbWrA

Say what you will about Bell, but he’s 100% right. Fields is making his receiver wait a long time for most of these passes. Translation? Those balls are getting knocked down or intercepted by NFL defensive backs.
Hopefully, this video is nothing more than Justin Fields going through the motions. And, hopefully, he’ll emerge as a viable NFL starter in the AFC.
According to the receiver who was catching those passes, Fields wasn’t late, he was working on his progressions.

Regardless, Fields has a long way to go before he becomes a starting quarterback again.
“Wilson did nothing through 12 practices to even slightly indicate he could lose the quarterback competition to Justin Fields,” The Athletic’s Mark Kaboly wrote. “The work ethic, the experience, the arm talent and the fact he basically took all of the first-team snaps strongly suggest that nothing Wilson can do between July 24 and Sept. 8 would prevent him from starting.”
Kaboly continued by saying Fields’ accuracy has been inconsistent. When the first read wasn’t there, he’d tuck and run.
Sound familiar?
Bears fans won’t cheer against Justin Fields. It’ll be the opposite. But there’s a sense of relief that he’s no longer in town, and instead, it’s Caleb Williams’ turn to… break the wheel.
