The Chicago Bears made a sizable decision when they retained Matt Eberflus as the head coach earlier this offseason. General manager Ryan Poles sent a clear message to the organization. Personnel, not coaching, was at the forefront of the Bears’ on-field struggles. Eberflus has been given an improved roster with Caleb Williams at quarterback ahead of the 2024 campaign.

The offense should be significantly better with Williams at the helm. Additions like Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze, D’andre Swift, and Gerald Everett should ensure Williams is working with an improved supporting cast compared to what Justin Fields had around him last season. New offensive coordinator Shane Waldron is also expected to usher the offensive scheme forward.

All of these positive changes could make Eberflus a strong candidate to win NFL Coach of the Year honors. DraftKings recently released their updated odds for the award, and Eberflus is considered the leading favorite at +900 odds. It’s worth noting he’s compiled a head coaching record of 10-24 through two difficult campaigns. New Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh is also available at +900.

The oddsmakers are wisely envisioning Eberflus getting himself into the conversation. If the Bears are as improved as the general audience expects them to be, then Eberflus will be a clear front runner. Chicago endured a record of 7-10 throughout 2023, so anything above .500 while contending for the postseason would be viewed favorably.

If the Bears manage to win the NFC North, Eberflus would almost be a shoo-in for NFL Coach of the Year honors.
