Caleb Williams has already been featured in HBO’s Hard Knocks
Caleb Williams already appeared on Hard Knocks before the Chicago Bears series begins.
We still have to wait a few more weeks to see the Chicago Bears on HBO’s Hard Knocks series, but Bears fans have already gotten a taste of what that might look like. In the most recent episode of the offseason version of Hard Knocks, rookie quarterback Caleb Williams is shown during his meeting with the New York Giants at the 2024 NFL Combine.
In the short clip, Giants’ head coach Brian Daboll gives Williams a scenario: you’re in a game with 70 offensive plays, 45 of them are pass plays, and you must run the same pass play all 45 times. Which pass play are you going with?
you get ONE pass play
you have to run that ONE play EVERYTIME there is a pass play
so if there are 70 plays in a game, and 45 passes, you have to run this ONE play 45 times
know the play you want??? pic.twitter.com/2lLpYlXwi2

Williams draws his play on the board as requested, and his choice seems to please Daboll. He told Williams that he used Williams’ play frequently with Brett Favre when Favre and Daboll were with the New York Jets. Daboll said Favre had the instincts and the arm strength to get the ball where it needed to be to make a big play.
Earning a favorable comparison to a legendary gunslinger like Brett Favre should be enough to excite Bears fans. However, what I found intriguing were the questions Daboll asked Williams about this play before mentioning Favre.
Daboll asked Williams if getting the ball to the number three option on this play was hard, citing the difficulties in reading the safeties and beating them with precise ball placement. He also asked Williams if he had ever hit back-shoulder throws on this play. Williams said he has, and remained confident throughout the interview.
Granted, it’s hard to take away much from a one-minute clip. But I found Williams’ choice of play, his confidence in beating safeties, and how Daboll made an unsolicited comparison to a Hall of Fame quarterback fascinating. I’m sure Chicago Bears fans agree when I say I can’t wait to see more content like this when the Bears are featured on Hard Knocks during training camp.
