Gervon Dexter revealed his incredible career goal at Bears training camp
Chicago Bears DL Gervon Dexter shared his incredible career goal after Bears training camp practice
Chicago Bears defensive lineman Gervon Dexter might be one of the most important players on the team’s defense this season. The 2023 second-round pick proved to be an ascending talent at the end of his rookie year, but he must establish he can be a consistent disruptor alongside Montez Sweat in 2024 to elevate the Bears’ defense from good to great.
Dexter knows consistency is key to becoming one of the NFL’s premier defenders, and to be consistent, he had to become better conditioned. He put in the time this offseason to report to Bears training camp in better shape, and it’s showing.
“I noticed the good ones can do it for one or two plays,” Dexter said Tuesday from Halas Hall, “but the great ones can do it consistent from the first to fourth quarter.”
There’s a chance Gervon Dexter will man the all-important three-tech role in 2024, which requires traits he possesses but needs to make sure he unleashes.
“Being leaner helps me get off the ball faster,” Dexter said.
Like all Chicago Bears players, Dexter had to pass a conditioning test before the first training camp practice. Not only did he pass, but he passed with the defensive ends (which was a more difficult test than the defensive tackles). He said he tried to get into “marathon shape” during the offseason.
His hard work will bring him closer to his incredible personal goal.
“I want to have my name on those walls when you walk in (Halas Hall),” Dexter said.
Gervon Dexter has a long way to go before he becomes a franchise great, but his offseason effort is of the stuff that can’t be taught, coached, or learned. You either have the work ethic, or you don’t. Dexter has it, and when combined with his natural ability, there are no limits on how good he can be.
