Celebrate Walter Payton’s birthday by reliving his 200-yard game vs. Packers
The Chicago Bears celebrated the life of franchise legend Walter Payton, who would have turned 71 on Thursday
Chicago Bears legendary running back Walter Payton would have turned 71 years old on Thursday. Payton passed away in 1999 at 46 after a brief battle with a rare liver condition. The Bears celebrated his life via social media with a special birthday tweet.

A nine-time Pro Bowl selection, Payton was a prolific rusher that was named league MVP in 1977. Nearly a decade leader, he helped the legendary 1985 Chicago Bears win Super Bowl XX. Payton once held NFL records for career rushing yards, touchdowns, carries, yards from scrimmage, and all-purpose yards, among other statistical categories. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993.
