CBS Sports expects Caleb Williams to challenge for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year
Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams is entering the 2024 NFL season with extremely high expectations.
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams will begin his NFL career with extremely high expectations. That’s usually the case for the first overall pick, but it’s even moreso when that first pick is a quarterback. Add to the mix that it’s the Chicago Bears who picked that quarterback, and, yeah, Williams is carrying the weight of a city on his right arm.
According to CBS Sports, Williams will meet those expectations, even if it isn’t always pretty.
“With Moore, Allen, Odunze, and Kmet, he has ample receiving weaponry around him,” CBS Sports Chris Trapasso wrote. “After what I assume will be an occasional hiccup as he tests the limits of his creativity and tight-window passing capability, Williams should settle into his role as the most dynamic passer Chicago has had in a very long time. I expect an NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year type season.”
If there’s one thing I disagree with in Trapasso’s assessment, it’s that Williams will settle into his role as the most dynamic passer the Bears have had in a long time. Let’s correct the record: there has never been a dynamic passer in Bears franchise history. There is no “long time”, just, never. Ever.

So, yeah, Williams will be the most dynamic passer the Chicago Bears ever had from the moment he steps onto the field. I have a strong feeling he’ll be the first quarterback in team history to throw for more than 4,000 yards, and barring a disastrous season, I fully expect he’ll be (at worst) a finalist for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. In fact, it would be sort of disappointing if he wasn’t.
Chicago Bears fans are a tough group to please. Williams has his work cut out for him this year. But if he succeeds, if he tops 4,000 passing yards, wins a lot of games, and takes home some personal awards? Yeah, he’s good. Bears fans will love him for life. He won’t have to worry about those expectations anymore.
