Nice guys finish last. Or, get fired as offensive coordinators in the NFL.

According to Chicago Bears wide receiver Keenan Allen, Shane Waldron’s demise was, in part, due to him being too nice.

“I would say just probably he was too nice of a guy,” Allen told the Chicago Tribune’s Dan Wiederer. “I think during OTAs, training camp, he kind of fell into a trap of letting things go, not holding people accountable. Obviously those things lead to a slippery slope.”

We’ve been hearing a lot about Bears players not being locked in at practice, and this is just another example of how the players seem to be falling short of a professional standard.

Waldron never came across as a guy who could command a basic press conference, let alone an NFL offense. He even looked nervous calling plays on gameday.

Perhaps Waldron’s nice-guy persona would’ve worked fine if his offense produced results. However, the Chicago Bears rank near the bottom of the NFL in every major statistical category. So, while it may sting to give a nice dude his walking papers, it was time for a change, it was time for Thomas Brown to call plays.
