REPORT: Caleb Williams apologized to Bears teammates for offense’s struggles
Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams is stepping up as a leader, even during the team’s struggles on offense.
More often than not, when an NFL offense is struggling, the blame will be pointed at two people: the quarterback and the offensive coordinator. The Chicago Bears are in the middle of a three-game slump on offense, and blame was primarily shifted to Shane Waldron, who was let go by coach Matt Eberflus this week. Meanwhile, rookie first-round pick Caleb Williams remains in the starting lineup despite not leading the team to a touchdown in 23 quarters.
A slump like that could send a rookie quarterback into a tailspin. But Williams is cut from a different cloth. In fact, even as a first-year player, he took a massive step as a team leader and took accountability for what’s gone wrong on offense.
NFL insider Jay Glazer reported Sunday that Williams stood up during a team meeting and apologized to his teammates for the offense’s poor showing.
Bears rookie QB Caleb Williams actually got up in a team meeting after OC Shane Waldron was fired and APOLOGIZED for his part in the offense stalling enough where Waldron was fired. Teammates were very impressed by the accountability and his decision to do that. @NFLonFOX

Call it a hunch, but I think the shakeup inside Halas Hall will have a positive impact on Williams and the rest of the offense as they enter a three-week buzzsaw in the NFC North. Waldron couldn’t command the room, new offensive coordinator Thomas Brown won’t have any problems doing that.
Williams is the first Bears player to stand up and take blame, and it could be the spark the offense needs to finally get back on track.
