This stat should have Matt Eberflus extremely worried
The Chicago Bears will likely fire Matt Eberflus at the end of the season because of stats like this.
Chicago Bears coach Matt Eberflus should start updating his resume. It’s assumed he’ll need it this offseason after the Bears do what many expect they will: fire him.
The Bears fell to 4-6 following Sunday’s 20-19 loss to the Green Bay Packers, marking the 10th straight time Chicago has lost in the so-called rivalry. It hasn’t been much of a rivalry in recent years, especially not since Eberflus was named head coach in 2022. He’s 0-5 against the Packers. Gross.
But Eberflus’ ineptitude extends beyond Green Bay. He’s been unable to coach this team at the most critical points, especially close games.
Check out just how bad he’s been in one-score games over the last three seasons:

Eberflus is by far the worst coach in the NFL in close games. His 5-17 record is embarrassing. Unfortunately, the Chicago Bears organization hasn’t been embarrassed enough to terminate him.

Eberflus’ late-game failures have been in the national spotlight over the last month. He botched the Week 8 Washington Commanders game, which resulted in an improbable Hail Mary touchdown that sent the Bears home as losers on the last play. His choice on Sunday not to try to gain a few extra yards with 36 seconds and one timeout left against the Packers played a big part in Cairo Santos’ kick getting blocked.
Eberflus’ time in Chicago has expired. And it appears everyone knows it but the Bears.
