Matt Eberflus breaks silence after being fired as Chicago Bears head coach
Former Chicago Bears coach Matt Eberflus issued his first statement since being fired.
As Chicago Bears fans rejoice over the firing of Matt Eberflus, the former head coach (it feels good to write that) issued a statement Saturday thanking the Bears, the players, and the fans for the nearly three years he spent in Chicago:
“I would like to thank the McCaskey family and Ryan Poles for the opportunity to be the head coach of the Chicago Bears.
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the players for all of their effort, dedication and resilience. In every situation – practice, games and especially in the face of adversity, you stayed together and gave great effort for your team and each other.
What I am most proud of was the way you carried yourself both on and off the field and represented the Bears organization with class in the community.
To the fans, thank you for your support and passion. I will always have a deep appreciation for the Bears organization and the city of Chicago,” Eberflus wrote.
Eberflus’ time with the Bears ends with a 14-32 record, which ranks as the third-worst winning percentage in team history. The 2024 season was especially bad for Eberflus, who couldn’t get out of his own way in one-score games. His 5-19 record in one-score contests became his fatal flaw.
“I thank Matt for his hard work, professionalism and dedication to our organization,” GM Ryan Poles wrote in a statement. ‘We extend our gratitude for his commitment to the Chicago Bears and wish him and his family the best moving forward.”
